New era for women in Japan?

Abroad Japanese culture is in general known as suppressive to women, where in the past wifes had to walk a few meters behind their husband or the task of office ladies was focused on making tea or taking copies. Of course this practice is gone now. As of today Yamazaki san is the first Japanese mum heading to the space station, which is an example of breaking another class ceiling. In bigger cities women only cars on subways or trains do exist, some only during rush hour or then in Kobe for the whole day. This does not mean that everything is looking bright for women. For the “2010 Changemaker award” in business 54 persons were listed, but sadly no woman was included. Change can be seen, although the pace might be rather slow.
